Colors of Morocco: 12-Day Itinerary

Welcome to Morocco! Your driver and guide will welcome you at the airport and assist you with check-in at your hotel. You can explore downtown Casablanca on a walking tour and get your first taste of Moroccan cuisine at a recommended restaurant.

Discover Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city that reflects a blend of the country’s historical roots and modern-day cosmopolitan flair. Visit the magnificent Hassan II Mosque and explore the Habous quarter. Then head to Rabat and delve into the city’s iconic UNESCO sites, including Hassan Tower, Chellah, and the Kasbah of the Udayas. Continue to Fez where you’ll have time to settle into your boutique hotel for the evening.

Today you’ll immerse yourself in Morocco’s cultural capital on a walking tour with your guide. Explore the UNESCO-listed Medina, where medieval history comes alive amidst winding alleyways, vibrant souks, tanneries, artisans, and traditional architecture. In the evening, learn to cook traditional Moroccan dishes in a private home with a chef, culminating in a shared meal where you’ll savor the dishes you’ve prepared.

This morning head to the imperial city of Meknes, where you’ll tour the impressive walled city. See the grandeur of Bab el Mansour, one of Morocco’s most magnificent gates, and the opulent tomb of Moulay Ismail. Lunch will be at a local winery outside of Meknes where you’ll have time to tour the vineyards and enjoy a wine-tasting session. In the afternoon, visit Volubilis, home to the most significant Roman ruins in Morocco, with exquisitely preserved mosaics and the remnants of a triumphal arch. 

Today’s journey to the Sahara will take you through the stunning scenery and traditional culture of the Middle Atlas mountains. Enjoy the lush cedar forests of Ifran on a short hike and marvel at the Ziz Valley river as it winds through an oasis brimming with palm groves. The Middle Atlas gives way to the iconic dunes of the Sahara near Erfoud, where you’ll take a jeep into the desert to witness an unforgettable sunset. Dinner and overnight will be at a camp set amidst the dunes.

Discover the magic of the Sahara desert in a day packed with unforgettable moments. Begin at a lush oasis, then marvel at the epic dunes of Erg Chebbi at a panoramic lookout point. Learn about the ingenious underground water system, called khatarat. Then head to Khamlia, a village that offers a glimpse into the traditional way of life in the desert. You’ll have a traditional lunch, then visit a local family to share a pot of tea and learn carpet-making from a skilled woman artisan. Return to your camp in the afternoon.

This morning head to the awe-inspiring Todra Gorge, where the sheer rock walls soar up to 300 meters. After a walk in the gorge, continue to the enchanting Dades Valley, a beautiful landscape adorned with striking red rock formations, lush valleys, and Berber villages, offering a glimpse into the cultural tapestry of the region. Arrive in Ouerzazate, home of the impressive Taourirt fortress.

Journey through the heart of Morocco’s caravan route, starting with Ouarzazate, where you’ll tour the Taourirt Kasbah. Visit the fairy tale village of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, then continue towards Marrakech. The drive up the Tizi n’Tichka pass is one of the most picturesque stretches of road in Morocco. From the top of the pass at 2,250 meters, descend to the fertile Haouz plain and the royal city of Marrakech. Settle into your riad and finish off the day with an optional hammam.

An unforgettable day awaits with a private tour of Marrakech. Begin at the Bahia Palace to admire its 19th-century beauty and intricate designs. Visit the Saadian Tombs to learn about the legacy of Morocco’s Saadian dynasty, then explore the Mellah, Marrakech’s historic Jewish quarter, including the Lazama Synagogue. After a hike to the Setti Fatma waterfalls, visit a Berber house for lunch where you’ll learn about the Amazigh culture in this part of the High Atlas.

Today’s journey takes you to Essaouira on the Atlantic coast. Along the way, stop to see the Argan trees where small goats climb up the branches and feed. Sometimes there are as many as 20 goats sitting in one tree. In Essaouira, tour the oceanside medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring narrow winding streets, whitewashed buildings, and colorful markets. Your guide will take you to the historic fortification and defensive wall that offer stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the city’s harbor. Return to Marrakech in the late afternoon and enjoy your final meal in Morocco at a highly recommended restaurant, savoring the flavors and reflecting on your unforgettable journey.
